Our Thoughts~

This is a darling book that presents different aspects of the President’s job and the rooms of The White House in an easy to understand fashion.  I love the illustrations throughout the book and find that having a mouse in office makes this book quite neutral when it comes to the different parties.

The writing flows rhythmically as it is written more like a long poem with every pair of lines rhyming.  This style of writing seems to be a draw for the younger kids (like J) who enjoy the more sing song rhythm for a story.  But, even an elementary student could enjoy this title and learn from it.R and J enjoy reading Woodrow The White House Mouse

At the back of the book there are a few pages titled “The Tail End” which presents more background for the parents or educator to utilize this title more fully.  The only website mentioned is for The White House Historical Association.  While it is easy enough for people to search and find sites focused upon the Presidency, it would have been nice to have a few vetted sites listed as well.

All in all, this is a nice book to help the younger student gain some appreciation of what The President does whether in an election season or not.

Woodrow: The White House Mouse comes in hardback with a retail price of $16.95 US/ $19 CAN and is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Books a Million.  (I noticed it is available for Kindle at the low price of $1.60, too!)

I hadn’t even thought about how the mouse helps keep the politics out of the book. What a great point! And that picture of the two of them is great.
