If you have been reading this site or following me for a while, then you probably know that I love to read. My boys do, too. Although my youngest son sometimes struggles with it. With him in mind, I was thrilled to welcome a new chapter book into the house: The Adventures of Rockford T. Honeypot by Josh Gottsegen.
“An epic story of a chipmunk who discovered meaning and purpose while pursuing his ambitious dreams to change the forest forever.”
About The Adventures of Rockford T. Honeypot

As a young chipmunk, shy, bookish Rockford T. Honeypot had dreams of thrilling adventures across the forest.
However, timid of danger and germs, his only adventures were found in
books and his imagination.
When his family abandons him after a mistake that destroys their
hazelnut business, Rockford sets off on a legendary journey beyond his wildest dreams.
From exploring cuisines with a famous chef, training with ancient warrior monks, flying on giant hawks, finding true love, and much more, Rockford recounts his epic origin story of hardship, perseverance, and fortune.

Our Thoughts on The Adventures of Rockford T. Honeypot
Since my youngest has turned into a somewhat reluctant reader at the moment, we have been reading this title aloud. While I could be finished with it already, I am enjoying this time together.
As my reading it to him takes more time, we are not even halfway through the book. However, the story is enjoyable with a host of characters and loads of adventures.
The homeschool parent in me sees many opportunities to expand learning through this novel. And, we do take time to discuss themes or even unfamiliar vocabulary.
It was a few words on the first pages that led to our decision to make this a read aloud. Sometimes it is easier to discern a definition when you hear a word compared to seeing it.
