I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
Last year, I shared several different Advent selections in the 40 Days of Seeking Him Advent and Christmas meme. I decided it might be nice to highlight those posts and then share a new song with my readers.
In Music to Set the Advent Mood, I have the following selections showcased:
O Come Divine Messiah
The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
In A Voice Cries Out, more music for Advent, I shared an absolute favorite selection regarding John the Baptist as well as two others:
A Voice Cries Out
On Jordan’s Bank the Baptist’s Cry
O Come Divine Messiah
Finally, in Music to Finish the Season of Advent, I shared :
O Come, O Come Emmanuel
Veni Veni Emmanuel
While I really love each and every one of those songs, I wanted to share a few that I had not shared.
My Soul in Stillness Waits has a haunting melody and a pace that just calls you to reflection. I found this very recently uploaded video on You Tube from a Mass held on the 3rd Sunday in Advent.
Just a few days ago, I was blessed to help arrange and attend an overnight retreat for our youth. With illness in the house, I did not stay for the whole night. However, I really enjoyed playing piano while a group of youth formed a ‘choir’ to sing. They did a lovely job with Creator of the Stars of Night given only a few minutes of rehearsal. While I don’t have a recording of us, I did find a recording of this song on You Tube to share.
Finally, I’ve been enjoying a Gregorian Chant CD of monks this Advent which I’ve owned for years. Glancing around You Tube, I found this lovely Advent chant selection by a group of U.S. Benedictine nuns.
My wish is that some of my readers might enjoy some music and have time to really get our entire selves focused upon the reason we have Christmas.
I’d also love to hear if you have a favorite selection from those I’ve shared or maybe a piece that hasn’t been shared yet.
This post has been submitted for inclusion in The Christian Home Issue 94 hosted here. As the featured columnist for the Movies and Music category, you can be looking forward to weekly posts on what we are watching or music we’ve enjoyed. Feel free to leave suggestions for me as well that are family friendly or uplifting for adults. While I have movies and some music selections in mind, I’m always on the lookout for other great choices.
This post is also linked up to the 40 Days of Seeking Him Advent Season 2012 meme for week four. I hope you will come back to share more during this season of Advent.
