Making a Statement Through Accessories for Mother’s Day
Springtime is here in southcentral Alaska and it is wonderful to be able to ditch the heavy layers.
For a welcome reception at our parish, I opted to wear a solid color dress which is in a perfect color for me and then play a little with my accessories.
I have found that neutral clothes as a base really give you a lot of freedom.
This rich blue dress is from Chaps (purchased at Kohl’s 2 years ago on clearance for around $20.)
The shoes are Dana Buchman sandals in a cognac color for the woven tops and a cork heel (purchased at Kohl’s on clearance for the super bargain price of $6.99!!) I went a half size up on the shoes from what I should buy to get the width I needed. Plus, how could I pass up shoes at 90% off?
I chose a tan-colored Liz Claiborne purse which complements the brown tone of the sandals I am wearing. It seems like I get into a black purse rut and love to break out lighter colors when the weather gets warmer.
My necklace is a favorite Cross purchased from Silpada Designs more than a decade ago which is strung onto a rope-style silver chain that I was gifted by my dad back in high school.
A splash of color rests on my wrist in the form of an art glass bracelet from Pier 1 Imports. This was another gift from one of the ladies for whom I covered on maternity leave almost 2 years ago. I adore how moving it in the light can generate a slight change in appearance.
My hair was a quick and dirty bun which served the function of corralling my hair, keeping it off my shoulders so that my necklace was visible, and having the added benefit of drawing attention to my smile. (Video tutorial coming soon!!)
Now that I’ve test run my outfit for Mother’s Day with thumbs up from all who I saw, I don’t have any planning to do come May 8th.

I totally agree and need more scarves in my house. I should have 2 new ones arriving in the next few weeks and both would work with this dress.

LOVE your outfit! I’m kind of wearing something similar right now! Same blue, but I’ve got on a Maxi dress with tan sandals. I find that changing up my shoes and bag really mixes up the look, also varying jewelry type (dressy, casual, boho) helps. When you need to dress it down a bit, throw on a cardigan! Nice choices!

Years of little boys playing with them had me avoiding jewelry almost completely. I need to get one ear re-pierced because of that. But, I love how a few pieces can change up an outfit.
