Creativity Abounds with Snow Sculptures at Fur Rondy 2013

Late February is always the time for the annual Fur Rondy event in Anchorage. There are a variety of experiences and so far we’ve usually missed them as little kids and super cold weather do not always mix well for this mama. However, this year we met up with other homeschool families to look at the snow sculptures.

Snow sculptures have always fascinated me. I would like to see how they actually do them. It would be fun to watch!

I love the Jesus on the Cross one.Your hershey kiss turned out good. What a fun thing to go to.I absolutely love the snow and I think it’s because I don’t live in it. I live in Ca in a city where it doesn’t snow. I always pray every Christmas for it to snow but it hasn’t yet.

Jesus being nailed to the Cross was one of my favorites, too. The one that looked like a Hershey kiss is really a water drop (with snowflakes stamped into it.) It wasn’t mine, but rather another mother in the community.
I like the snow and love to look at it. I have friends up here that can’t wait for winter each year to do all the snow sports (skiing, snowboarding, etc.)
Oh I love snow sculptures. We have a town that we go to that does these every year. So creative.
I love looking at them and one winter hope we can visit Fairbanks for the annual ice sculptures they have. I’m just not creative enough to do my own sculpture. Plus, there’s the whole cold factor…as in I get cold quickly just standing around outside.
Wow…those are beautiful. I wonder how long it takes to carve them!

I’m sure they take way longer to carve than I’d want to be outside in the winter weather. That makes me appreciate the work even more.
Wow – those are awesome looking! I have seen sand sculptures like that, but never snow. I am impressed. But I think I like the mom’s water drop best.

I thought the mom’s water drop was really neat given the explanation about it. Sadly, there were some people looking at the sculptures when we were there that commented it was a bit ‘lame’. Somehow I don’t see any of them in that light given the people are also outside freezing while doing it.
