Cajun Popcorn

With a few lovers of all things spicy in the house, I decided to try my hand at a Cajun-inspired popcorn for them to eat.

I was going for a bit of zip without overwhelming your tastebuds.

I’m sharing my initial recipe and will be trying to ‘tweak’ it a bit in the near future as the one complaint from my spice enthusiasts is that it wasn’t HOT enough for them.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag microwave popcorn
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tsp. paprika

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn per your microwave's instructions.
  2. While it is popping, mix together the garlic power, onion powder, cayenne pepper and paprika in a small bowl.
  3. When the popcorn is done popping, carefully open the bag. While still warm, sprinkle about half of the seasoning blend onto the popcorn.
  4. Fold the bag closed and shake well to disperse the seasoning.
  5. Taste test the final product and add more seasoning mix if needed!

Notes

I put 2 as the serving size as that's about how much my family members will eat in one sitting.

If you use popcorn made in an air popper or stovetop, you will want to pop about 1/3 cup of popcorn to get the ratios correct. Also, use about 2 Tbsp of butter on the freshly popped popcorn to coat it and then toss with the seasoning.
