Water as the Optimal Beverage for Health and Weight Loss
There are many tasty beverages out there to quench your thirst. Keep reading to see why water is the optimal beverage for health and weight loss.
When you start to feel thirsty, what do you typically grab to quench that sensation?
Did you answer water or is there something else being consumed for the majority of your beverages each day?
While I do tend to drink my fair share of tea and coffee during the cold weather months, I still strive to fit in my daily requirement of water.

I was sent the package of DASANI Drops mentioned in this post in the hopes of my sharing about them. No monetary compensation occurred and all opinions are my own.

Water as the Optimal Beverage for Health and Weight Loss
If you talk to many in health professions or read some books, you will be told to strive for around 8 cups of water each day. However, I’ve now discovered that I need to drink MORE than 64 ounces per day!
Instead, you divide your current weight in half. As a minimum, drink that number of ounces each day.
128 pounds is the point where you would drink the recommended 64 ounces per day. If you weigh more, then you will need more water.
Your Current Weight (lbs.) ÷ 2 = # of ounces of water per day
That is the way to find your minimum amount of water per day.
Things like vigorous exercise, hot climates, and caffeine or alcohol increase your need.
If I add in a cup of caffeinated coffee, then I could easily be up to 100 ounces of water as a minimum.

Why is water the optimal beverage for health and weight loss?
Fluids are important for healthy heart function and to keep blood pressure within the healthy range. Hydration in the body is important for transporting carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and other important nutrients and oxygen to the cells.
Additionally, water acts as a lubricant for muscles and joints; it helps cushion joints and keeps muscles working properly. Not only that, I have found that if I am not drinking enough water then I retain fluids and can not lose unwanted pounds.
Since September, I have been starting my day with 16 to 20 ounces of cool water. While it isn’t hard for me to drink that large boost of water early in the day prior to exercising, there are times in the afternoon and evening when I would love a little bit of flavor.
Squeezing a bit of lemon juice into the water is nice, but I sometimes seek something a little different.
Flavor Your Water for Drinking
DASANI Drops is another way I am helping to boost my water consumption while enjoying a refreshing beverage. Just a little bit of the concentrated liquid goes a long way as a flavor enhancer and adds no empty calories to my day.
Plus, they are great to bring with me on the road. We get used to the taste of our main water supply and sometimes it is hard to enjoy water on the road.

The boys and I have been sampling through four different flavors of DASANI Drops and we all have our favorites.

I love the Pineapple Coconut which makes me feel like I’m having a virgin Pina Colada with no calories. Some of the boys are not coconut lovers, so they gravitate more towards the mixed berry and pink lemonade.
Thanks to DASANI Drops, I do not anticipate any more struggles to get all the water I need each day.
How do YOU get the water your body needs each day or is it a struggle to achieve?

Yep, I don’t drink NEARLY enough water. My boot camp instructor told us to take in our body weight in ounces if we are working out a lot. That’s 160 ounces a day for me, eek! I’m getting better though, a water bottle with a straw has really helped me a lot. And I cut soda out completely too. I tried to drink some the other day and it was like drinking syrup! Thanks for the tips, and for sharing on my Healthy Living Monday Link Up!
I have found that I drink a LOT more water if I have some of the flavored bottles around, but that can get expensive. I’m so glad to learn about this and will definitely be trying it.
It is definitely a LOT less expensive than the individual bottles of flavored water.
I need to give this a try. I know I need more water but it’s so boring to drink. These drops sound fabulous, and tasty.
I completely agree that water by itself can get ‘boring’ to drink. Anything to up my water consumption is a good thing.
I know i don’t drink enough. Like Surfnsunshine, I can’t really stand it unless it has some flavor too. I need to check these out!
I definitely don’t drink enough water. I have to have SOME flavor – even just a little. I think these would be a great fit for me!
Can’t I count my coffee as water?? After all it’s just hot water poured over coffee grounds, right?
Sadly, no… well, you might be able to fudge a bit if it is decaf coffee. But, anything with caffeine will actually dehydrate you.
