Vocal Coach Singer
I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
Anyone that knows me realizes that I have a real love for music. I enjoy playing the piano and I love to sing. While I took years of lessons for the piano, I have never had a formal lesson on voice to hone my skills in that arena.
Now I am tackling a long desired dream of learning how to better control my voice and improve my singing.
How?
With Vocal Coach’s Vocal Coach Singer program, I am starting to flex my vocal muscles and form ‘muscle memory’ as I improve my skills.
About Vocal Coach
Vocal Coach product doesn’t teach a particular style, rather we teach you to master the principles of vocal muscle memory, which cause critical body parts to produce excellent sound, amplification, and control with increased stamina to predictably deliver the results you want! Before you know it, you’ll be able to apply what you’ve learned to any style you want to sing. Just like a well-conditioned athlete often has the ability to play many different sports, a well-trained singer has the potential to sing many different styles.

My Thoughts
Unlike most products for review through the Schoolhouse Review Crew, I am not using this one with the boys. I had hoped to get my younger sons to join me on the exercises, but it quickly became apparent that they are just not ready for this particular program. So, instead I am using it for my own enjoyment with the hopes of become a better vocalist whether I am singing in a choir, singing in the role of cantor, or just singing Christmas carols with friends.
For the review, I was provided everything as a download. What I have not done (but want to do for portability) is to put the vocal exercises onto a CD. Playing it on my computer works okay, but I sometimes struggle with volume through the speakers and would prefer using the CD player. I’ve taken to using headphones on the computer, but then get strange looks from the boys when I’m doing the exercises.
I really like that you can print out the exercise music and read the pattern rather than just memorizing each phrase. I also have enjoyed reminders about posture (feel that string from the top of your head…) as that is an area where I sometimes struggle. I’m also working at being able to maintain my breath for longer cycles. It wasn’t until I was in the church choir in Maryland that I learned how bad my breathing was for singing and I feel like my not being in that strong of a choir has me lapsing backwards.
While the program does not have a clear cut lesson plan to follow, you can read more about integrating Vocal Coach Singer on their homeschool page. The company also offers online vocal training via Skype to get the personal feedback that is otherwise lacking in a packaged program like this one. I’m fortunate to have a friend at church who is a vocal instructor and can ask her for quick feedback. However, for someone without that type of connection the online training option on occasion could be a great supplement.

It really is true that anyone can sing with the proper training. I realize that some are born with gifts to sing, but I truly believe anyone can sing notes with practice. I would love to improve using professional techniques.
