TOS Crew Review ~ Schleich

I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I believe just about any homeschool parent out there would agree that imaginative play is an important component for learning within the early elementary years. Even my older sons (3rd and 6th grade) love to pull out the legos to build or Playmobil to engage in that imaginative play. As they have aged, the way they engage in this play has changed so that the older boys create more realistic events and settings.

They were all thrilled to receive a sampling of animals from Schleich. We have seen their products in stores such as Target or Toys R Us as well as in museum or zoo gift shops. Often, they have begged to get one as the figures are so realistic and visually appealing. It’s no wonder that this company is “a leading manufacturer of animal figurines and imaginative playworlds!”

The animals we received included an Arabian Foal, a lamb (lying down), a cat (sitting), an African Elephant calf, a sea lion, and a kangaroo. For days, they took turns coming up with unique interactions between the animals and payed attention to certain habitat details as areas were designated water, sand, and grass.

A small catalog of their other products was included in the shipment. The boys have poured over that booklet and are already making long lists of what they want (especially the knights and dragons product lines.)

As a family that sometimes seems to be drowning in stuff, I can honestly say that investing in Schleich’s products could add benefit to our homeschool environment. There are a lot of options in the ‘toy’ category, many of which turn out to be rather limited in both usefulness and longevity. While we cleared out a LOT of the ‘twaddle’ items before our big move over a year ago, there are still some items that the boys have found no longer hold luster and just take up space in the house. I know envision another big purge of items to make room for products such as these that can engage their imagination for years to come.
