Maybe there is something about growing up outside New Orleans which just makes music be an integral part of life. There is a long history of great musicians. And, if you ever visit the French Quarter there is music all around you. In many ways it is hard to escape it, a fact that is all right by me as I enjoy soaking it all in or joining in the process of making music.
That Would Be Me Album Description
That Would Be Me is an album which had Harry Connick Jr. breaking further from his comfort zone as he worked with outside producers Eg White (Sam Smith, Adele, Florence And The Machine), and Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Pink, Weezer, Fall Out Boy). It is never easy to work with new people who have a style different than your own. Yet, the result appears to have been worth it as the process served to expand his musical palette with the songs having a strong focus upon the them of needing to be loved and loving.

My Thoughts on on That Would Be Me
My memories of Harry Connick Jr.’s initial entry into the mainstream music stream is for his remakes of classic pieces for When Harry Met Sally. I absolutely loved it and bought every one of his initial albums. And I watched him on the screen when he migrated into acting as well. In some ways, you could say that Harry is a performer who has music as his base since he hasn’t just sat in complacency for one particular thing. I admire his willingness to not be put into a particular mold, but rather find different ways to express himself.
This latest album, That Would Be Me, at times is a little gritty while the songs have the common theme of love. Did I completely adore every piece on the album? Not completely. However, the underlying beats have a way of drawing you in to the songs while his voice, backup singers (in some selections) and other instrumentation pieces layer together to make this a compelling album.
