Why Baked BBQ Chicken Wings?
There is no question that chicken wings are a hit for a family dinner or a casual party. Along with French fries, chicken wings could be one of the more popular finger foods.
But chicken wings, especially those that are deeply fried, are high in fat and calories. Fried chicken wings are among the last foods you would want to eat if you are trying to lose weight.
In fact, battered and fried chicken wing can have as many as 10 grams of fat. A fried chicken wing without coating has around 6 grams of fat. If you remove the outer layer of the skin, there are just 1.3 grams of fat left.
Baking chicken wings, meanwhile, you can reduce the fat in the chicken.
While it can take a while to bake chicken wings (about 45 minutes in the recipe I am sharing with you), you get to benefit from doing other things while waiting for the chicken wings to get cooked.
You can probably work on the BBQ sauce recipe that I have detailed below, or perhaps make final arrangements for the party you are hosting or attending.
Baked BBQ Chicken Wings Recipe
Here’s how to cook baked BBQ chicken wings. In this recipe, you can make 4-6 servings. This should not take you more than an hour to finish.
- Chicken wings (about 3 pounds or 24 pieces)
- Fresh ground pepper
- 2 cups of barbecue sauce
Step by step guide:
- Preheat the oven to a temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Twist the wings and pop the tips under the joint so as to form a triangle.
- Season both sides with pepper and salt.
- Place the seasoned wings in a large baking pan.
- Bake the wings until the color turns brown. This should take around 45 minutes.
- Remove the wings from the oven then pour off all the fat from the baking pan.
- Put the wings back into the pan. Pour the barbecue sauce all over them, then return the pan to the oven.
- Bake for another 10 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy.
Adding the sauce at the end of the recipe is the trick in thickening up on the wings without burning it.
Tip from Laura ~ If you like really crispy wings, then bake the wings on an oven safe cooling rack lined baking pan.
Make Your Own BBQ Sauce
Speaking of sauce, I think you will agree with me when I say that baked BBQ chicken wings are only as good as the sauce that you can make.
There’s no need to buy bottled sauce for this recipe. You can make your own.
