When I first saw this title come through as a possible book to review I just knew I HAD to read it. First off, I’ve been impressed with other books by Tricia Goyer (like Chasing Mona Lisa which I reviewed this past year.) Secondly, it’s a clean romance set in Alaska! Those 2 reasons had me seeking a way to make sure I could read Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska sooner rather than later.
Not only did I get my wish, but I also was chosen to be one of the bloggers on Tricia Goyer’s 2013 Fiction Launch Team!
About Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska
Singer Ginny Marshall is one signature away from the recording contract of her dreams—a deal that would guarantee success for the former foster child, who still struggles to bury the memories of her painful childhood. But Ginny needs advice from the one person who will look out for her best interests—her former fiancé, Brett Miller. She travels to the remote town of Glacier Bay, Alaska, where the town’s colorful characters and stunning scenery provide respite from LA’s pressures.
In Glacier Bay, Ginny discovers a box of old letters and is swept up in the love story between Clay, an early missionary to Alaska Territory, and Ellie, the woman who traveled there to be his children’s governess. When Ginny is reunited with Brett in Glacier Bay, will she discover—as Ellie did—that healing and love are sometimes found in the most unexpected places?

My Thoughts about Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska
Okay, I’ll admit that I started reading this book with the desire to love it. Like I already shared, I have enjoyed other work from Tricia Goyer and am a bit prejudiced about stories set in Alaska as that’s the state we now call home. And, I can honestly say that this page turner of a novel is one that I love and will enthusiastically recommend to anyone seeking a good Christian romance story.
Now aside from a prejudiced opinion of one author and the setting, why do I love this title?
First off, while it is co-written by two lovely ladies, you don’t feel like things are disjointed at all. The story flows cohesively through the pages. The settings not only paint a vivid picture of southeastern Alaska for the reader, but the authors convey the incredible beauty of God’s creation which those of us living in this area of the world can appreciate on a daily basis.
Secondly, I really enjoy seeing how a character can both come to realize what they truly are seeking as well as seeing how God’s hand is their in the weaving of the story. Tricia and Ocieanna did a wonderful job with this aspect by integrating a ‘historical account’ of Clay and Ellie through old letters and diary pages with the modern day events of Ginny and Brett. I loved reading of the struggles faced by ‘city girl’ Ellie and how easily Ginny could find herself relating to the fish out of water feelings she had. But, there’s also a lot of courage evident in both female characters which shines through as the men in their lives try to be the ‘rock’ they need.
I won’t divulge anything about the ending. I will say that there’s plenty of tension in both stories to have you not only wishing for the couples to marry, but also wondering if that is where the story will end. And, that tension helps to move the story and make you wanting to read just one more page before heading to bed (IF you can put it down.)
