Until January arrived, this winter had been rather mild for south central Alaska. So much so that traditional outdoor activities such as skiing and sledding were not feasible. On a cold January day, we popped over to watch artists in the process of creating ice sculptures in Anchorage which would be lit up for display in a downtown park.
Enjoy taking a look at some finished and some not quite so finished ice sculptures. I’ve put all of the photos into a short video and am highlighting just a few in the post.
I have a big admiration for the artists spending entire days out in the cold to bring their forms to life from blocks of ice. We were glad to be walking towards warmness and the promise of a yummy lunch.
Enjoy more photos of the Ice Sculptures in Anchorage in this short video!
You can see more photos (at night) at the official Crystal Gallery of Ice page. Just stunning!!
Have you gone to observe sculptures in the process of creation?
Ever try your hand at ice sculpting?
