How to Make Grilled Asparagus with Parmesan

May is in full swing and the weather in south-central Alaska has been gorgeous. Warmer temperatures mean that I want to grill more of our meal rather than heat up the kitchen. For Mother’s Day, my eldest son was grilling steak for part of our special dinner.  I had some thick asparagus in the house to use which would complement the steak and shrimp scampi being made.  Rather than steaming and running the risk of it being overcooked, we decided to try making Grilled Asparagus with Parmesan.

This was SO easy to do that it had me wondering why we don’t grill our vegetables more often.

Our grill master refused photos during cooking.

I will share that he just placed the asparagus spears perpendicular to the grill bars and used tongs for moving them as needed.

Ingredients

  • 1 to 2 pounds of asparagus
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • Parmesan Cheese

Instructions

  1. Wash asparagus spears and trim off the bottoms.
  2. Lightly coat the asparagus spears with olive oil
  3. On a HOT grill, lay the asparagus spears perpendicular to the grate.
  4. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or longer if the spears are very thick.
  5. Remove from the grill.
  6. Sprinkle Parmesan Cheese on top of the grilled asparagus spears, turning to coat.

Notes

You can cook these in a hot oven under the broiler for a similar affect. However, you won't have the grill 'taste' and any attempt to reduce heat in the kitchen will be gone.
