Flowers Spotted During Recent Hikes

Back in western NY and even Ohio, we had snow crocus that would peek through the soil to tell us winter would soon be over.  Shortly after their appearance, we had daffodils and tulips popping up.  A few neighbors in Maryland had spring bulbs planted that did the same thing.  And, maybe in some areas of south central Alaska there are those that plant bulbs.  Just not near our house!
Unlike time spent in other areas of the country, I have felt like this area of Alaska is home to green, green, and more green.  Green from the evergreen trees that remain so throughout the year.  Green from the new leaves that appeared on the birch trees spaced throughout the evergreens.  And, green from the grass and weeds that finally covered patches of ground that looked brown and dead after the winter snow melted.
However, there are pockets of color that appear here and there.  They just aren’t in my yard!

Now we need to plan out how I can get some splashes of color in the yard beyond the hanging baskets that seem quite popular up here.  Although, we do have the set up for keeping those baskets watered throughout the summer.
