Feed Your Reader (along with your heart and mind) with Lent Devotionals

Lent may have started yesterday, but that doesn’t mean it is too late to find a devotional to use as a way to focus your heart and mind towards God.  While I could just read through the Scriptures for each day, I like to have something more to ruminate (or ‘chew’) upon during my days.  I decided to share about a few that I found and am thrilled to have my Kindle all ‘fed’ with Lent Devotionals.

Lent Devotionals for Catholics

While these are written specifically for Catholics, I believe that any Christian would find beauty and truth within the pages.

When I lived back in Maryland, I had a subscription to Magnificat magazine as our parish offered a discounted rate if purchased through them.  I loved the daily prayers and readings as well as informative sections on Saints for each Feast Day.  The publishers offer  2014 Magnificat Lenten Companion which is available for 99 cents in digital format.  (Actually, they sold out of print copies and this is the only way to get it now!)

After hearing my parents rave about The Little Black Book for Lent 2014 , I opted to purchase it for Kindle.  I did take a few minutes to look at the preview to see if the style would appeal to me.  You could order it in print format ($4 plus shipping from Little Books), but I liked the $3.06 price for instant download onto my Kindle.

Lent With St. Francis: Daily Reflections is one that I am still considering adding to my reader.  I love so much about St. Francis and like to look towards holy men and women who came before me as inspiration for how to better align my life to God’s will.  This book for Kindle is $2.99 and not specific for 2014 dates.  You can also buy this one in paperback format for $3.99 (Prime eligible shipping, too!)

This past Advent, I purchased the print version of Sacred Space for Advent 2013.  The Irish Jesuits offer Sacred Space: The Prayer Book 2014 as well as Sacred Space for Lent 2014 that provides just the devotions for Lent.  The devotion uses the simple six-step method first developed by St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits, this new edition provides daily readings and prayer starters.  The Lent one is $0.99 for Kindle format or $1.75 for print (Prime eligible shipping.) I am seriously considering getting the year long book for $10.69 (Kindle) or $12.20 (print with Prime shipping.)

Lent Devotionals for All Christians

These are written for most any Christian to use during the season of Lent.  I can not promise how they fit with Catholic Church teachings as I’ve just downloaded them to my Kindle and haven’t started reading. 

Devotions for Lent (Ebook Shorts): Meditations Based on Best-Loved Hymns This particular devotional was free for a few days before Lent began.  I adore music and this one appealed to me as it pulls Scripture and beloved hymns for daily reflection.  I am eager to dig into this one and see what the Holy Spirit might inspire within me.

Lord of Glory: A Daily Lenten Devotional on the Names of Christ (2014)  was also free on Kindle last month in anticipation of Lent coming.  I was attracted to the use of the many names for Christ in the Bible as a starting point for this devotional.  The current price is $2.99 for Kindle.
