Clue: The World of Harry Potter, a review

I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Are YOU wild about Harry?

As in Harry Potter, that is!

My boys (with the exception of J as he’s too little to notice or care) are all big Harry Potter fans.  And they can hardly wait until we make our trek to the movie theater.

Good thing they had the opportunity to play the new World of Harry Potter version of Clue this past week.  That has helped make the wait a little easier.

I had a difficult time getting D to understand that we had to first clean a place for playing before just diving into the box.  Such enthusiasm in a 7 year old is hard to contain at times.

Once we got our much needed cleaning done and had a huge area for play, D set about the task of punching out all the paper coins and trying to understand the rules.

By the time I got home from bringing J to the dentist the other day, I found them quite involved in a game.  Plenty of happy sounds emanated from our school/play room at that time. (And my camera was acting up…so no pictures were taken that day!)

The basic framework of Clue is present (having to determine which 3 cards are in the envelope.)  Only there are familiar items from the world of Harry Potter.  Instead of hidden staircases to pass between rooms, floo powder is used to navigate.  Players use magic items, spells or potions to avoid the effect of dark items or open a locked door.  Also, the board can “move about” some depending on how things are going…very reminiscent of the staircase at Hogwarts.  Having that connection to a series they thoroughly enjoy seems to have raised the boys enjoyment level of Clue.

I think the only complaint I heard was that R wished they had statue figurines for the character rather than ‘chips.’  But, this mom is glad as enticing figures might have quickly wandered from the board game and into general play.  (That’s how we lost a few of the weapons from our original Clue game!)

This new edition should be hitting stores any day now.  We would definitely recommend this game for a Harry Potter fan who also enjoys a good board game.

And for a rainy Sunday afternoon, it is a good thing to help pass the time as a family.

Disclosure ~ We were sent one copy of Clue Harry Potter edition for the purpose of completing this review.  No other compensation was provided and all opinions are still my own.
