Embrace God’s Mercy with the Divine Mercy Novena
Good Friday is the day to begin the Divine Mercy Novena.
If you aren’t familiar with this particular one, I highly recommend delving into it. I shared about my experience attending a presentation about Divine Mercy a few years ago.
There are several channels for receiving His Grace through His Divine Mercy: Image of The Divine Mercy, the Feast of Mercy (Divine Mercy Sunday), the Chaplet, the Novena to The Divine Mercy, and prayer at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, the Hour of Great Mercy.
Why add 10 minutes or so of prayer to your day from Good Friday until Divine Mercy Sunday (one week after Easter)?
I find that it helps to prepare my heart even more. And praying for God’s Mercy through Christ is never a bad thing. Seeing recent terrorist attacks on the news like those in Brussels tells me that the world NEEDS Divine Mercy. We need the love of Christ in our lives, too.
Along with the novena, I plan to embrace all the requirements for the indulgence this year (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion at Mass either on Saturday or Sunday that weekend, prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff, and take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy.
What I’d love to do soon, is order an Image of Divine Mercy for my home. Our parish has a gorgeous painting hanging in the Nave year round. Right after daily Mass during the week, a group of attendees takes the time to say the Divine Mercy Chaplet. When I have joined them, it is nice to have the image for focusing upon.
