During the season of Lent, many Catholics and others of the Christian faith gather to remember the Passion of Our Lord.

This is typically done via the Stations of the Cross.

While living in Alaska, we went to soup and Stations at our parish. It provided a chance for a little fellowship followed by communal prayer.

The day this post was originally penned in 2011, it was the last time for the year.

Songs for Lent: Passion of Christ

I thought I’d share a few songs that really make me consider the Passion of the Christ and how undeserving I am for his unselfish gift of death upon the Cross so we could be saved. 

Behold the Wood of the Cross

First up is Behold the Wood of the Cross by the Jesuits. 

They have a lovely recording (both for vocals and pictures):

O Sacred Head, Now Wounded

Another one that is a tradition for Good Friday, but fits the Passion theme, is O Sacred Head, Now Wounded.

Attende Domine

For those who enjoy chant and a bit of Latin during Lent, this is an excellent selection.  Translation is on the You Tube page.

Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?

This one is used in many Christian churches.

Simple, yet haunting when you truly consider the words.

There is one you can watch one with images from The Passion of The Christ. (YouTube won’t let me embed it because some images are disturbing.)

Instead, you can listen to this one by Johnny Cash.

Jesus, Remember Me

This one is often chanted at the conclusion of Holy Thursday’s Mass.

A time of more quiet reflection upon the sacrifice Jesus made for us.
