This past weekend, I had a rather packed Saturday which began with our annual Ladies Group tea and church and ended with me stuck on the highway for more than 2 hours. In between, I fit in a run to our new Ulta store as well as attending Mass. This meant I stayed in my dress and heels for the whole day and actually had a few people wonder if I was helping to chaperone the homeschool prom. I almost wish I’d stayed at the prom to help as an accident on the Glenn Highway (the ONLY road from Anchorage heading north) had things moving at a crawl for hours on end.
My outfit for the day had me mixing and matching from the closet. I must have got it right as several women at church (both the tea and Mass) came up to tell me that I looked fabulous.
I love this faux wrap dress which I reviewed last year, but for most of the year find it too cool to wear up here in southcentral Alaska. While my boys might run around in shorts when temps hit 50, I’m still wanting a little more clothing on my body. Layering with a black crochet shrug from Monroe and Main is the perfect way to extend the season for it.
I went digging through my jewelry looking for a chunky necklace to set things off, but found everything had too much gold for this dress with those splashes of silver. So, I went for an old standby: pearls.
Finishing off the outfit is this simple, yet elegant bracelet which is primarily silver with little splashes of gold. I find it quite versatile as it can work with just about every outfit I pull together.
I’d like to introduce you to Jessica from Elegantly Dressed & Stylish who blogs about fashion for women over 40 which is a perfect fit for me. She has a tagline of “Over 40 Doesn’t Mean Frumpy!” which is how I am starting to feel as I up my fashion game and move past the homeschool mom ‘uniform’ of jeans and a tee.
I am thrilled to be co-hosting this week’s Turning Heads Tuesday Linkup with her. I found her blog when the first linkup went live and really enjoy joining when I can and visiting other bloggers to see what they are wearing. I highly encourage you to follow her on Bloglovin and Instagram.
What are some ways you extend a summer dress into cooler weather?
