My Thoughts on The 7 Principles of Fat Burning
As much as I’d love a quick and easy solution to jettison the remaining extra baggage I carry around, I know that for me slow and steady without drastic change is preferred. You won’t find me doing one of those lemon juice in the water cleanses to purge fat from my body. Nope, this busy mama likes to eat. And I figure I will turn into a seriously grumpy mama bear in no time on those kinds of crazy diets.
What I love about Dr. Berg’s book is that he isn’t about super extreme plans for the long haul (or even a few weeks like that ‘cleanse’ diet.) Plus, in this book, he supplies a lot of research to back up what he is communicating. This is all done in a friendly and easy to understand manner.
I’ve long suspected that hormones play an integral part in body shape and how easily we can part with extra weight. This book just confirmed my ‘gut’ and previous research.
He had a short quiz part way through the book to help you determine your body type/types. (You can take a quiz on his website, too!) The quiz results only confirmed what I suspected by looking at the body type illustrations shown in the book. Same thing with the suggested nutrition and exercise plans. (If you are curious, I’m definitely an ovary type with my lean upper body and giant ‘bump’ from my waist to my knees. It’s been that way forever, too!)
Starting a new job outside of the home and trying to find balance has not made me eager to try a full implementation of his suggestions. Also, some foods that go on the ‘naughty’ list are staples for my family. I know it will be a challenge for me to stop eating while watching boys gorge on them.
Even without a full trial of his approach, I do appreciate seeing that some things I was already doing are good choices for me. Like, when it comes to exercise I need to have regular strength training coupled with aerobic exercise. When I was doing Beachbody’s Les Mills PUMP this winter, I started seeing changes in body shape even though the scale didn’t really budge. I know it was that coupling of exercise types that was helping me make progress.
Now, I do want to forewarn that when it comes to the nutrition aspect, Dr. Berg’s business has several products ready for you to buy. I haven’t ordered or tried any of them. But, I can admit that for some purchasing his instant kale shake or Organic Cruciferous Food may make the change in eating habits a bit easier.
For now, I’ll be keeping with my daily Shakeology and consider if I want to add to it.

Yes, there is a gentle sales push for products to make your life ‘easier’ nutrition wise. , I’d highly recommend this book for anyone who’s ever wondered why it might be that the weight won’t come off with the traditional cutting of calories and addition of exercise.
