Feeding the boys, husband and myself is one of those daily ‘chores’ that never seems to go away. Doing take out or restaurants for dinner every night is not only impractical from a financial standpoint but also terrible for our overall health. Thankfully, there are services such as Build a Menu which take the pain out of meal planning for me with options that can save me money or be incredibly healthy. They even have dishes for those following the Trim Healthy Mama plan!

How to Use Build a Menu
Using Build a Menu is pretty easy.
Once you have an account and are logged in, you can pick which grocery store you plan to use. (There’s a generic option as well.)
Then, you can pick selections for all meals with a running total of anticipated expense showing up on the right-hand side. This assumes you are buying pretty much everything, so your actual cost could be far less if you buy in bulk or stock up on super sale.
Finally, you can print the recipes and a shopping list. There is also an option to assign each dish to a particular meal for a one week span.
I will admit since beginning my journey with Build a Menu, I do not always make the meals I originally planned for the week. Sometimes life happens and I make a change (usually to an old standby dish.) But, I am enjoying the exploration with some new dishes (e.g. the Tangy Green Beans recipe I shared about a few weeks back.)
What I truly love is that they are constantly improving the site so that users can “mix and match to build the menu that works best for their family’s tastes and budget.” As I am now looking for more gluten free meals, I appreciate how easy it is to find those alongside the Trim Healthy Mama ones.
