After the longs weeks of seeking Christ through Lent, we have arrived at the biggest feast of the year. It is Easter! Christ has risen and we once again can sing the Alleluia throughout the Mass. Aside from wishing all a Happy Easter!, I thought it would be fun to pull together music for Easter Sunday.
Easter Has Arrived! He Is Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia!
What I love is that today is just the start of the Easter season.
Oh, how sad to think it is just one day when we celebrate this most glorious gift. And, for some, that is how they approach both Christmas and Easter. As a single day where treats are eaten, gifts may be received, and time is spent with those you love.
Rather, we have weeks of celebration!
Christ took upon him all the sins of the world. And, to many on that Good Friday so long ago, it looked like darkness would win. Until that first Easter Sunday when the tomb was found empty.
I found this a few years ago and still love how the person who created the image used words from a contemporary song to reflect what happened. (Although, they left out the ‘your never gonna keep me down’ part of the refrain out. And, I believe there is no way to keep Christ down. The best we can do is deny Him.)
Music for Easter Sunday
I spent years in music ministry and truly loved planning liturgies. There are times when I miss being an active part of that ministry.
Below are some selections that fit with the readings for Easter Sunday. Of course, you can enjoy many of them any day of the year!
Jesus Christ is Risen Today
After weeks of no Alleluias, some of the favorite hymns for Easter are packed with them.
Responsorial Psalm 118 (Haugen)
This cantor has a wonderfully soothing voice and I love the use of organ.
Christians, Praise the Paschal Victim! (Victimae Paschali laudes)
River of Glory by Dan Schutte
This is a popular one for the Sprinkling Rite during the Easter season.
Now The Green Blade Rises
Darkness Is Gone
Christ the Lord Is Risen Today
Wishes from our family to yours for a Blessed Easter season. May you continue to grow in relationship with Christ all the days of your life.
