Lapbooking at our house
I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
Lapbooking is something new for our homeschool journey. Since scrapbooking always held such appeal for me, it is no great surprise that lapbooking would hold such appeal. R and D tested the waters with me by completing Live and Learn Press’s free lapbook – All About Me. They had great fun completing the booklets and we might do it again this fall.
Here’s D and R holding up their All About Me books…
We are using Live and Learn Press’s Learn’n folder for Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Astronomy. The boys really enjoy doing the mini-booklets compared to the notebooking pages suggested by the book’s author. I think it is having specific direction for what to write compared to picking a few facts from their reading that makes it more enjoyable for them. R really enjoys reading through his astronomy ‘book’ as we are pasting the booklets onto cardstock in a binder.
The older boys did the “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” lapbook from Live and Learn Press this past December. We did almost all the booklets prior to Christmas. However, we didn’t actually build our lapbooks with the booklets until a few weeks ago. Both P and R enjoyed the study and had fun reading through their booklets once placed into their books. They especially liked the word search and little maze activities which we covered with packing tape for repeat enjoyment.

We have used Lapbooks in our homeschool, but not as often as I would like. When we do use them, my kids seem to enjoy them. I like how you substituted the Apologia Notebooking with the lapbooks for your kids. They did a great job on their lapbooks and look so cute and proud of their accomplishments!
f.r.o.g.,I’ll have to post some of my favorite lapbooking ‘how to’ sites later. The ones I pictured were products with an outline of what to do. Some people just wing it, making mini-books to go along with their studies. I am hoping to do that – eventually- but like the ease of use for something prepared for me.
Lap books.. sooo cool. I never heard of them before! Is there an outline to follow?
I hope I can try out some lapbooks with the boys. You’re a natural for a blog. Welcome to the blog world! 🙂
