I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
The holidays are beckoning and that means time to consider what you’ll be purchasing for gifts. If your kids are like mine, video games are something they love to receive. Thankfully, there are some great options out there which are not super violent or full of scantily clad women. Below are just a few of our favorites that can serve as holiday gifts for your video game lover.

This game engages the kids in creation of their own worlds, either as a single player or in multi-player mode. My older boys both saved up to purchase Minecraft for the computer and will join friends online to play on occasion. Last year, we were gifted Minecraft for the XBOX 360 which even my 5 year old enjoys playing (and I don’t have it hooked to the interent!) Look for a Minecraft rich post coming soon including books to help the kids learn to play or be better at it!
One of the favorites in our house is Forza Horizon (exclusively for XBOX systems.) We have Forza Motorsport 4, but it is not as well liked. J loves to play these, but doesn’t do so well as it’s really beyond his age level.
You can find racing games for the younger crew in the house, too. I found the original Cars for XBOX which is easier for him. Cars 2: The Video Game looks like a great addition and is available for many different platforms.
We purchased the original Disney Infinity last year when it was half-price on Black Friday.
The boys love being favorite characters. The only downside is that they’ll want more and more of the characters to expand their play. However, I find that they make for a great gift later in the year (especially if family members wonder what to buy the kids.)
The younger boys are hoping that Santa will bring the new Disney 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes edition to the house.
There are many out there (and one of the boys is coming up with their top picks.) However, I can say that in our house there is one LEGO game that sees a LOT of action by the boys and their friends….LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. We have it for XBOX 360, but it is available for your little super hero on different platforms including PC.
And, the boys are eager to get their hands on The LEGO Movie Game after watching the film.
What are your kids favorite video games?
