Holiday Crafting: A Charming, Non-Melting Snowman

Are you looking for a fun, easy project to do with your kids this holiday season? Try making a charming snowman that won’t melt!

This is a great activity for all ages, and it’s sure to get everyone in the festive spirit. Keep reading for instructions on how to make your own snowman.

The snowman has been a common fixture during the Christmas season and is commonly loved by kids and parents alike.

Children build these figures to take advantage of winter weather conditions when it snows outside. Many seek out snowman options for indoor decorations.

These festive creatures can be made out of any material – cheap ones that are only crafted using plastic or expensive materials like metal–and come in many different shapes.

What you’ll pay for a premade snowman varies depending on what’s used for its construction: from simple wooden models all the way up through complex fiberglass sculptures.

Making your own snowman can be fun. But the question can be what materials you have around the house that can be used.

During the holidays, we all find ourselves eating way more than usual. And with all this food around, it’s important to eat something healthy like yogurt!

Yogurt is a common fridge food that is healthy and good for maintaining our digestive cycles.

What do you normally do when you finish eating a cup of yogurt?

Instead of throwing the cups away, you can upcycle them into a nifty craft with the kids.

This will work perfectly as an addition to your Christmas decorations- so go ahead: make those cups useful again by crafting themselves into one very cute snowman!!

Materials

  • an empty plastic yogurt cup
  • a small styro ball
  • 2 pcs of small to medium buttons
  • 2 pcs soft crafting felt (any color would do)
  • a thin metallic ribbon
  • a piece of light colored construction paper

Tools

  • hot glue
  • a black pen
  • a pair of scissors

Instructions

  1. Cut the flapping edge of the plastic yogurt’s mouth.
  2. Wrap the light-colored construction paper around the walls of the plastic yogurt cup. Apply hot glue at the ends of the paper to permanently seal it to the cup.
  3. Cut the excess paper on the top and the bottom part of the cup.
  4. Cut a long strip of soft purple crafting felt. The length should be at least 10 to 15 centimeters and the width is at least 2 to 3 centimeters. This will be the snowman’s scarf.
  5. Hot glue the small styrofoam ball on top of the plastic yogurt cup or the body of the snowman. This will be the snowman’s head.
  6. Wrap the purple scarf around the neck of the snowman or in between the body and the head of the snowman. Hot glue the scarf to the body to permanently fix it.
  7. Hot glue the buttons in the middle of the snowman’s body.
  8. Add some details on the scarf by cutting the ends of it. Create small vertical cuts on the ends of the scarf.
  9. Make a small fold that is at least 1 centimeter in width and wrap the craft felt on top of the snowman’s head. This will be the snowman’s bonnet cap. Cut the excess craft felt. Meet the ends of the open bonnet and hot glue it.
  10. Squeeze the open part of the bonnet and tie it together using a metallic ribbon.
Add details to the bonnet by creating small vertical cuts above the metallic ribbon.
  11. Add details to the face of the snowman like the eyes, the nose, and the sweet smile using a black pen.

Notes

If you want to make extra large snowmen, buy a larger package of yogurt and a styrofoam ball in a size that works.

The snowman is a great gift idea for those who love the winter season.

You can make several of these and display them in groups at your side table, center piece, or even on top of an occasional table!
