We all need some downtime in our lives.

How we spend it can be quite varied.

For many, turning towards entertainment options like movies and television is where we look.

Yet, even entertainment options have a breadth of choices.

At times, I find myself gravitating towards selections that will inspire me.

Gifted is one such movie.  (Having Chris Evans star in it doesn’t hurt, either!)

About Gifted

Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child prodigy – his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) – in a coastal town in Florida.

Gifted is the story of a single day and his gifted daughter.

Frank’s plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the seven-year-old’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan) whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary.

Octavia Spencer plays Frank and Mary’s landlady and best friend.

Octavia Spencer plays Roberta, Frank and Mary’s landlady and best friend.  Jenny Slate is Mary’s teacher, Bonnie, a young woman whose concern for her student develops into a connection with her uncle as well.

Thoughts on the Movie

This selection will give you plenty of feels.

In other words, make sure you have some tissues at the ready as there are a few times when you may tear up.

I found the actors to do quite well at portraying the situations faced.

I firmly believe we all have our own gifts, with some who are more academically gifted.

How to approach their education can be a challenge.

I’ve seen some who are taken and set apart to nurture those abilities. Like Frank in this show, the parent may question if that is the best choice for a child.

Thankfully, I have never been faced with that choice.

Instead, homeschooling my boys allowed for the customization of their learning.

This included dual enrollment courses during the high school years.

Do you have a gifted child in your life?
Has nurturing their needs been a challenge for you?

Gifted is a film that inspires with a focus on love and relationships

  1. This looks like it would be a great family movie! Plus getting to watch Chris Evans is always a plus!

  2. I like that it’s a single father and that view of raising a child alone. I’ve seen interviews with the two of them and it seems like they work well together.

  3. Answering all three questions. What interests me about this movie is that I am a female, a double minority. I think giving all communities a voice is extremely important. And it represents that we all deserve kindness. I do not have a special child in my life except for my nephew that requires a lot of attention and he can’t focus on school work. Getting him to do the simpliest of things is a challenge. He likes to play with the sink water and pees on the bed.

  4. What I love about the movie is that it is something the family could watch together and that it is such a great lesson involved in it.

  5. What appeals to me about GIfted is that it seems like a great movie that is family oriented so we could watch it as a family on movie night
