As a Christian, I have accepted God’s hand in the creation of the universe. Where I sometimes find myself disagreeing with friends is in the TIME aspect of creation. The feature-length documentary Is Genesis History? came on my radar when it hit theaters earlier this year. I was thrilled to be asked to be part of a blog campaign through LEV3L Digital.
Note ~ As part of the campaign, I was provided with access to a digital screener for the film. They are also providing a copy to giveaway. All opinions are my own.
A Few Words on Creation Science
If you ask someone what the term Creation Science means, you may find multiple ideas.
Creation Science implies that God created the universe and everything in it.
Within the realm of Creation Science, there are those who embrace the theory of a young Earth. This means a literal interpretation of the timeline laid out in the Bible.
As a Christian and trained scientist, I have embraced creation science as the idea of God as Creator. I’ve never tried to reconcile the timeline laid out in Genesis compared to that taught by many in science.
About Is Genesis History?
IS GENESIS HISTORY? features over a dozen scientists and scholars explaining how the world intersects with Genesis.
From rock layers to fossils to lions to stars, this fascinating film will change the way you see the world.
The film shines new light on our origins, providing a positive case for creation in six normal days, a real Adam and Eve, a global flood, and a tower of Babel.
Dr. Del Tackett, the creator of “The Truth Project,” serves as your guide—hiking through canyons, climbing up mountains, and diving below the sea—in an exploration of two competing views … one compelling truth.
The film originally played on 700 screens across the United States on February 23, 2017 and then followed by 2 encore one-night presentations.
April 11th is the scheduled release date for Is Genesis History? for individuals to watch at home.
My Thoughts on Is Genesis History?
As I said, I have not been one to embrace the idea of a young Earth. My belief in God as creator is not shaken with the notion of the universe being billions of years old. Rather, I have been fine with the idea of each day of creation corresponding to an ‘age’ in our timeline. After all, God is outside of time which is where the phrase “His time is not our time.” comes into play.
However, this documentary presents so much information that fits with the idea that I am now digging deeper into my long held beliefs.
Dating of rocks is the way mainstream scientists have dated the earth. Yet, recent catastrophic events (e.g. the eruption of Mount Saint Helens) show that the time it takes to dramatically alter the earth does not always correspond to those dating techniques.
I was the only one to screen the film. Now, I want to watch it with a notebook in hand to write and others in my family alongside. And, I plan to dig through all the resources on the film’s website, including summaries of each section.
Resources on the website include:
- Educational resources
- Videos and photos
- Film guide (available after you join the team)
- YouVersion companion study available online or via YouVersion (The Bible) app
Does Is Genesis History? Deliver on Its Promise?
I’d say their film can be called a success if those who embrace an old Earth are willing to consider evidence to the contrary.
Seeking Truth is a cornerstone of my life as a Christian.
I firmly believe that once a Truth has been spoken, we have to either turn our backs on it or wrestle with it as we adjust our worldview. Thanks to watching this film, I now have more guidance in exploring the topic of creation science and my ability to reconcile belief with our current scientific knowledge.
