Accessorizing Outfits for a Fresh Look

Since returning to the workforce, I’ve gone back to shopping my closet. This includes the approach of accessorizing outfits I already have for a fresh look.

When I first got the job offer, my sister asked if I was going shopping for some new items.

I told her no.

Not only because I didn’t want to start spending my paycheck before I earned it, but also because I had several items feeling unloved in my closet and drawers.

And that was fine for the first few weeks.

Then, I felt the tug to change things up a bit.

So, I dug into my small collection of jewelry to see if changing up the accessories used would help my clothing feel fresher.

Capsule Closet Approach to Accessories

The idea of a capsule for your wardrobe has been catching on.

Typically, the focus is on the clothes and shoes you own.

I’ll be working towards that, although working at a community college with t-shirts for so many things may see that part of my wardrobe grow.

When it comes to accessories, I wanted to figure out the basics and consider how they can be used in a mix and match fashion.

Necklaces

I have to admit that when it comes to a basic necklace, I like one that has some weight behind it.

The few ‘dainty’ chain necklaces I own end up tangling easily and then get ignored.

So, bold chain necklaces seem to better fit my needs.

I have a costume jewelry piece that is a truly thick chain. And it works for some outfits, but not across the board.

I went on a hunt and found a few great chain necklace choices from AU-Rate that provide the solid foundation and quality I want. Part of the quality is that the necklace is 14k vermeil.

Bracelets

I do adore a good bracelet.

Some are quite plain and others have more color.

A perennial favorite of mine is silver with small gold accents.

Another favorite was a gift several years ago.

I love the swash of color for it, but do not wear it often.

Scarves

Layering accessories including something life a scarf is another way to pull together a look using the shop your closet approach.

One of my favorite multicolored scarves came from Trades of Hope. It is light-weight, so great for layers even in the summer.

Capsule Wardrobe Resource

Creating a casule wardrobe can be easy to do.

The basic idea is to have foundational pieces that can easily be mixed and matched.

For me, I have black bottoms (skirt and slacks) as they can pair easily with just about any color I would wear.

Now, my closet is not super paired down as I still have some pieces that are a size smaller or size bigger than I currently wear. I just tell my boys it’s a lady thing to hold onto stuff that you may need some day if you weight fluctuates.
