A Voice Cries Out, more music for Advent

The Gospel reading for the second Sunday of Advent this year was  Mk 1:1-8 with the familiar story of John the Baptist proclaiming that the Messiah would be coming in his desert ministry.

 

There are several songs that fit which I love.  Sadly, some of them are not in great video segments on You Tube to share.  Maybe if I had more time on my hands and a few friends with good voices to help, I’d record my own to share.

 

One of my favorites is A Voice Cries Out by Michael Joncas. (click through on the preceding link to listen to the first verse of the artist’s recording)   I found two  versions on You Tube, one left the visual to be desired and the other one was only a short snippet.  Here’s the one with the whole song:

 

On Jordan’s Bank the Baptist’s Cry is another ‘standard’ for that week in Advent.  While I enjoy contemporary pieces of music, I still adore the hymns that practically scream organ or chant.

 

 

O Come Divine Messiah is one of my favorites to sing or play on the piano. This version below has the lyrics on screen rather than images of the choir singing it.
