Faith and Hope Merge in All Saints Movie is part of a campaign through LEV3L Digital. As a Featured Contributor of Sony’s ALL SAINTS Influencer Program, I received the value of two movie tickets in exchange for an honest review on my blog. All opinions are my own.
I’ll admit that as I age I have taken to enjoying more inspirational films. Ones that show God working in the lives of ordinary people are particularly appealing to me. Releasing in theaters on August 25, 2017, All Saints is a film from that genre.
About All Saints (2017 Movie)
ALL SAINTS is based on the inspiring true story of salesman-turned-pastor Michael Spurlock (John Corbett), the tiny church he was ordered to shut down, and a group of refugees from Southeast Asia. Together, they risked everything to plant seeds for a future that might just save them all.
After trading in his corporate sales career to become a pastor, Michael’s first assignment is All Saints, a quaint country church with a dozen members. It comes with a catch: he has to close the church doors for good and sell the prime piece of land on which it sits. While developers eagerly eye the property and the congregation mourns the inevitable, Michael and his family look forward to moving on to an established church where they can put down roots.
But when the church hesitantly begins welcoming Karen (kuh-REN) refugees from Burma—former farmers striving for a fresh start in America—Michael feels called to an improbable new mission. Toiling alongside the Karen people, the congregation attempts to turn their fertile land into a working farm to pay the church’s bills and feed its newest people.
Jeopardizing his family’s future by ignoring his superiors, Michael must choose between completing what he was assigned to do—close the church and sell the property—or listening to a still, small voice challenging the people of All Saints to risk it all and provide much-needed hope to their new community.
On the movie website, you will find several resources available to expand beyond watching the film. This includes discussion guides.
Learn More About the Film
On the movie’s Resource page are several short behind the scenes videos available to watch.
Seeing the real people being depicted in the movie is a treat. In this case, you hear from Michael Spurlock as well as the vicars of All Saints who have come after him.
I particularly liked the short video where he talks about miracles. They mention leaving out several miracles for fear people wouldn’t believe how God works in that community. Guess we have to read the novel he is publishing with the full story to learn more!
Having watched these short videos and trailer, I am experiencing a real desire to watch this film when it releases. My only decision is which boy will be my ‘date.’
Review of All Saints
The week after it opened, my youngest son joined me at the theater to watch this film. We went early on a Friday afternoon and had just 7 other people in the theater with us.
It is not an action packed movie. But it is FULL of showing how God’s hand worked through the pastor and those who entered his life while at All Saints.
For me, it was a great reminder that we are called to be part of a community. And that is a lesson which the parishioners all learned. They may have started their project to save the church, but in the process found each other.
My son was on the younger side for this particular film. However, he still enjoyed parts of it. But the thing which blew me away was when the closing credits came up. He asked if WE could go visit All Saints Parish and help in the farm.
I definitely recommend this film to anyone who enjoys faith based cinema. That this is based on real life makes it even more special.

That the preacher changes his mind about closing the church and decides to keep it open to help refugees
This looks like a fascinating movie!
I am interested to learn more about the Burmise refugees. I know some local churches have helped some of them in our state as well.
