Snuggle Up For A Valentine’s Day Movie Night
While many people enjoy going OUT for Valentine’s Day and making a night of it, I tend to be a little more low-key.
Sure, a budget that gets tight after the holidays contributes to it. But, the reality is that I am more of a homebody than a gal who hits the town on a regular basis.
With the thought that some of my readers feel the same way (tight budget OR just prefer to snuggle at home with their honey), I am happy to share suggestions for Valentine’s Day Movie Night.

Valentine’s Day Movie Night with the Kids
As much as I like to think we can have a strictly romantic Valentine’s Day in our house, I know that until recently that just wasn’t happening.
Instead, Valentine’s Day became a family affair which in some ways is quite fitting given it is usually out of love that a family is born.
The Princess Bride is a family favorite and it has it all. There’s romance for those who like it and fighting for those who like that. It has a fairy tale flair and some comedy thrown in to boot.
If you have to do a family movie night with all ages in the house, this would be one of my top picks to watch. Honestly, I’d be hard-pressed to find a child or adult among my family and friends who does not at least like this film if not love it.

If Disney films are favorites in your house (as they are in mine), there are animated and live-action ones that would make an excellent selection for Valentine’s Day.
From the animated side, I’d go with Lady and the Tramp if you want that ‘amore’ happening and it pairs so nicely with spaghetti and meatballs for a family dinner.
Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty offer a more classic princess love story.
For a more fantastical live-action option, Enchanted is a lot of fun although the really young kids might be a little spooked by the evil step-mom/witch.

Valentine’s Day Movie Night with the Teens
Now, I should qualify that with teen-aged boys some of the movies a girl might enjoy are completely off the table.
That’s not to say that a certain teen wasn’t in the room when I watched the Twilight Saga. Just that he was more about the fighting scenes and how ‘buff’ Jacob was compared to the romance.
Warm Bodies is one that girls and guys alike will enjoy.

There’s the underlying theme of love and how it can transform you.
But, hey, there are zombies in it which definitely ups the cool factor for teenage boys.
I suspect many of the teens wouldn’t pick up on the very loose basing of the film on the classic Romeo and Juliet.
Of course, given that R, the ‘hip zombie,’ can only claim the other zombies as his family, I can see where a comparison gets a little harder.
We also enjoyed much of the soundtrack during the movie.
Easy A is one that I’ve reviewed in the past.
I love this film and even my eldest son got the appeal.
This is one interesting take on The Scarlet Letter as well as a good look at how labels change perceptions of you.
And, in true romantic comedy form, the girl gets the guy. (Read My Easy A review)
Letters to Juliet is another film I’ve reviewed in the past.
There’s a combination of mystery as Sophie seeks to find the intended love of a letter written long ago as well as a budding romance.
Best of all, this is a PG film with nothing to really stress over when it comes to inappropriate behaviors or dress. (Read my Letters to Juliet review)
Valentine’s Day Movie Night with Your Sweetie
There are so many great romantic comedies out there to pick from when it comes to the adults. These are just a few of the classics which we’ve enjoyed in the past.
Movie night for Valentine’s Day weekend with your sweetie does not mean you have to watch a romantic comedy. Take a slightly different approach and enjoy the snuggle.
James Bond…pick just about any of them and you’ll have the mystery/suspense to keep his attention and a little eye candy for you. Oh, and we all know that Bond never goes long without some romance in his life, although most of the time it is woven in as part of his ‘job.’

If you really want to get close, maybe a scary movie would be better. After all, it can be fun to ‘hide’ on his shoulder. The picture below is from a film where I did just that with a good friend back in college….

Easy A is a great movie. There are fantastic options for all age groups here!
Great list of movies! The Princess Bride is one of my favorites, and the kids enjoy it too.
Our first date movie was Heart and Souls with Robert Downey Jr., and we love it! I don’t know if we will watch it on Valentine’s Day, because we will most likely be hanging out with our kids in the evening, but it’s a cute romantic comedy with a bit a supernatural fun thrown in.
I don’t think I’ve seen that one yet. Thanks for the suggestion, Beth!
We generally stay home for Valentine’s Day. I love all your choices but Overboard is definitely one of my favorites!
