40 Days of Seeking Him 2020 Week 4 Lent
For many of us, the time of self-isolation / staying home and out of crowds is continuing for weeks yet to come.
The current situation was top of mind for me when I wrote a reflection upon The Greatest Commandment from the Gospel of Mark. I feel like there is still a future revision of that post needed, but felt it better to publish quick before I changed my mind.
Isolation is a challenge, especially to those who are extroverted or just use to always being on the go.
The novelty of binge-watching shows and eating up comfort food may already be fading.
We can long to be back to our ‘normal’ lives.
Rather than dwell on what we are missing, we have the opportunity to embrace the positive.
More time with immediate family members as things are cancelled.
More time to do all those projects around the house (e.g. cleaning, purging or even home repairs) that never seem possible.
More time to spend with God through reading of Scripture, working through Bible studies, or even just sitting in silence.
We just finished a Sunday brunch here at home. My 19 year old commented about how strange it felt to NOT have gone to Mass.
I feel the same way, but am so thankful for all the priests who are live streaming or recording and sharing the Mass.
As I have felt our new parish lacks in spiritual development opportunities (including lackluster or missing homilies), the ability to see beloved priests (St Mary’s in Littleton, CO; St. Andrews in Eagle River, AK; and St. Austin in Austin, TX) through recorded Masses.
Monica over at Equipping Catholic Families has her own list of online homilies and online Masses. Plus, there is a form where you can submit links for other priests/parishes doing this.
If you have never used the online resource, Formed, now is the time to try them out. Typically the membership is by parish. For the next month, they are offering free access to all. I may write up a post this week highlighting some of my favorite movies and studies available there.
