40 Days of Seeking Him 2020 Week 3 Lent

Is anyone else thinking this Lent will go down in history as the longest Lent ever?

With the frenzy surrounding the Coronovirus and the call to self-isolate, it sure seems that way.

We are being asked as a community to make a sacrifice (not going out around others) that we have not chosen. To enter a different kind of desert than we anticipated this Lenten season.

I’ve had conversations with people who are worried about making it through. This includes a woman who has a husband now having to work from home. And a mother of an extroverted little girl who isn’t used to just being alone and at home.

Churches are cancelling all gatherings. Here in southern Mississippi, our small country parish still had Mass this Sunday and will plan to have Stations of the Cross on Friday evenings. However, all other activities are shut down.

Thankfully, there are some priests now recording Mass so the faithful can make a spiritual communion. Our last parish in Colorado, St. Mary’s in Littleton, is doing that from the small chapel in the rectory. (Check out the gorgeous handpainted art work!) And some will be offering confession by appointment.

I may write more this week about how you can still have a great Lent while sequestered in your home. And sharing about ways your kids can keep learning while home from school.

In the meantime, I am awaiting the HVAC repairman as our a/c unit isn’t working. We have been blessed with moderate weather (low 80s in the day and low 60s at night) so far. But, I know it is a matter of time before the heat and humidity have me longing for air conditioning in the house.
