Remembering the Last Supper ~ Holy Thursday 2014

Today is a crazy day for me.  In years past, I have been able to leave my schedule fairly open and fully participated in the different Masses and services as we mark Christ’s last days and ultimately His Resurrection. 

This year is different as other aspects of my life (specifically homeschooling) intersect and have me spending my time on continuing education instead.

However, I am taking time once the crazy day is over to quietly read and meditate on today’s Scripture readings. 

On Holy Thursday, Catholics celebrate not only the Last Supper, Christ’s celebration of the Passover Seder with his Apostles, but we also mark today as the birth of the priesthood and the institution of Holy Eucharist. 

That includes taking time to pray for all the priests and that the Holy Spirit might move more young men to consider this vocation.

For those who are unable to attend Mass tonight (where the priest will also wash the feet of 12 parishioners), you might consider doing a Simple Seder meal with your family. 

Just this past Sunday, I spent about an hour leading a Seder meal with the youth group at church. 

It really does not have to be long, but rather taking time to experience our faith heritage and maybe take time to discuss how it ties in with our own.
