Alpine Historical Park
I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
Memorial Day weekend was great for weather up here and we tried to avail ourselves of places close to home. That Saturday had us up in the Mat Su Valley in search of fossils. On our quest for a spot to do that, we found a neat park in Sutton that preserves some of the regional history.

There are remains of a coal washing plant, one place I would not want to visit in action.
Plus, some historic buildings from the area that were moved to this site for preservation.
I loved that they had public restrooms after drinking tea while the boys and Mr. O walked along the riverbank. (It’s amazing what gets us middle aged women excited!) We even had our sack lunches at a picnic table on the grounds.
I loved seeing a spirit house up close…
as well as a winter lodge….
Inside one of the historic buildings, there was a display showcasing ‘important’ people in Sutton’s history (some still alive) and a neat display of fossils in rock.
You could also see some samples from a near by petrified forest.
The Alpine Historical Park does not charge a set admission. Instead, they have a donation box near the ‘entrance’ for a free will offering to help cover the cost of maintaining the site.
