The Identical ~ Wonderful Film About Finding Your Path
I am all for family-friendly films. The Identical is one such film that includes a dose of music, too.

About The Identical
THE IDENTICAL tells the compelling story of twin brothers unknowingly separated at birth during the Great Depression.
DREXEL HEMSLEY becomes an iconic 50’s rock ‘n’ roll star, while RYAN WADE (Blake Rayne) struggles to balance his love for music and pleasing his father.
The Reverend Wade (Ray Liotta) and his wife (Ashley Judd) are sure their adopted son has been gifted and called by God to be a preacher.
But Ryan challenges his parent’s vision for his life, and unflinchingly chooses to launch his own music career with his best friend (Seth Green).

Encouraged by his wife (Erin Cottrell) and employer (Joe Pantoliano), Ryan embarks on an unpredictable, provocative path – performing the legendary music of Drexel Hemsley in sold-out venues all across the country.
As the two brothers destinies tragically collide, Ryan discovers that Drexel is his identical twin which leads him to question everything he’s ever believed about God, family, and his own identity.

My Thoughts on The Identical
First off, I LOVE the music in this film.
I find that music adds a certain life to a story and The Identical does a wonderful job of marrying the acting with the singing.
This movie has 20 original songs which are quite varied in their style and reflect the change of eras throughout the movie.
Secondly, I really liked the theme of finding your path in this world.
One reads about twins separated at birth and how they still end up so similar even with different environments. There is something special about their bond.
In this movie, you can see how even with someone (Ray Liotta’s preacher character) trying to stifle the desires of his adopted son’s heart, in the end, he finds a path to his calling. And, the restoration of the family definitely lifts the spirits.
Third, this film is one that just about anyone in the family can watch.
I doubt those under elementary school would have the attention span or interest in parts of the film.
But, there is nothing so extremely racy that needs to be blocked from little eyes and ears. Although, I suppose some parents might not want youngsters seeing a child ‘talk back’ to their father even if said child is an adult.
If you are looking for something most of the family can watch which both entertains AND delivers a positive message, then definitely put The Identical on your to-watch list.
