Courageous, a Film that Entertains and Inspires!

I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Somehow I suspect several of the regular readers have seen this film.  However, I thought I’d take a few moments to share about it including our thoughts.

About the Movie~

The brief description you might see for this film is as follows:

When a tragedy strikes close to home, four police officers struggle with their faith and their roles as husbands and fathers; together they make a decision that will change all of their lives.

And, that is a somewhat accurate description.   However, before that event even happens, the movie builds the bonds between the four police officers and gives a glimpse into their lives and some of the other community members.  Each of the officers has a different background and family life.  One has never been married, one is divorced with a son and the other two are married with kids at home.  They are all getting urged at work to place value upon family life as they are also trying to battle local crime with the statistics showing fatherless children are several times more likely than those with fathers to turn to lives of crime.

When one officer (Mitchell) loses his daughter in an accident, he finds himself digging deep into the Bible while trying to heal from the pain left in the wake of her death.  He decides to write a ‘resolution’ that will honor God in every aspect of his life.  Sharing this with the three other officers and Javier Martinez, an immigrant who had been struggling to support his family, they decide to join him on this life changing decision.

Our Thoughts ~

P watched the film with me and said that overall it was ‘okay.’  He critiqued the chase scenes and gave his thoughts of what would make the action better or what seemed a bit strange to him.

One of the action scenes that he thought was a little ‘strange’ occurs near the beginning of the film as the 2 pairs of officers are chasing suspected drug dealers.

The new cop catches a ride with another after losing sight of his suspect.  When he spots him, they do a slingshot maneuver that has him being catapulted from the vehicle to run after the suspect.  I thought it was pretty cool.  He thought it was so ‘made for a movie’ and not something a real cop would do.

He did have one scene that he absolutely loved…the Snake King!  (I had to agree that it is hilarious!)

I did like that they had the one officer ‘fall’ and show that not everyone is perfect.  That doesn’t mean we can’t strive to live our lives as God desires, dusting ourselves off when we fall and doing our best as we rely on God’s grace to hold us up.

I also enjoyed seeing how the men who did stick to their guns on the resolution were then being blessed in their lives.  Javier’s faced with a difficult choice at work and makes what many would consider the unpopular decision.  However, it was the right choice both morally and in the eyes of his boss.  And, he then reaps the reward.

I can see how some people are a bit put off by the film. To some, it might seem a bit preachy and forced. However, I found the message to be good and I really do love to have Christian films that can entertain and inspire as options for viewing.  Whether I can ever get my husband to watch it remains to be seen, though.

For those of my readers who have seen this movie, what are YOUR thoughts about it?
