Our First Family Hike to Mount Baldy

Now that we are slowly getting more settled into our house, we are trying to incorporate some family adventures to really experience Alaska.

Having an Alaskan adventure isn’t really hard to do, even in the more densely populated Anchorage area.  You just head out your door and within 10 to 15 minutes you are somewhere that allows you enjoyment of the great outdoors.

For us, we can see Mount Baldy, part of the Chugach mountain range, from our window.  In a sense, it is practically in our backyard.  But, to reach the top in a timely fashion means driving part way up the mountain side where there’s an area for parking and two trails.

Since some of us (namely Laura and J) are not well seasoned when it comes to outdoor adventures, we choose the trail that looked easier to navigate. There was still plenty of walking UP, but the other choice seemed to kick off your hike at a relatively steep incline. 

J got to ride on dad’s back and really enjoyed the experience.

He even took a little snooze for a bit as the fresh air, motion and altitude helped him fall asleep.

On our hike, we found signs of moose…….

We also found the stream that runs in the woods near our house……..

While we had a nice hike, we didn’t reach the top of Mount Baldy this time.  I guess we picked the trail that doesn’t lead up the side of the mountain.
