Catholic Bible Dictionary by Scott Hahn

I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

For over a year, I have had the Catholic Bible Dictionary by Scott Hahn sitting in my Amazon wish-list.  I was wanting to expand our collection of reference materials specific to Catholicism and this one caught my eye.  Patience paid off as I was recently given the opportunity to review it.

The Catholic Bible Dictionary is a great reference which not only provides definitions of who is who and where things occurred in the Bible, but it goes a step further to incorporate Church teachings.

Description of the Catholic Bible Dictionary

More than a generation has passed since the appearance of the last major Catholic Bible dictionary. It has been a fertile generation for biblical scholarship, an eventful time for biblical archaeology, and a fruitful time for the Church’s interpretation of the Bible. It is time for a new resource.
Scott Hahn, internationally renowned theologian and biblical scholar, has inspired millions with his insight into the Catholic faith. Now he brings us this important reference guide, written specifically for Catholics, which contains more than five thousand clear and accessible entries and covers a wide range of people, places, and topics. From Genesis to Revelation, the whole of salvation history is presented and explained in smart, easy-to-understand prose.
Catholic Bible Dictionary is an invaluable source of information, insight, and guidance for Catholics and others who are interested in enriching their understanding of Sacred Scripture. Scott Hahn draws from two millennia of scholarship to create an accessible and comprehensive tool for deeper and more rewarding biblical study. Using it is easy to do.  Think of what you want to know more about or have defined and look it up just like you would in a regular dictionary.  Some of the entries are short while others span multiple pages.  I will admit that there are times when the information contained on the page just wets my appetite to learn more on the particular topic.

I definitely recommend this resource to any Catholic wanting to learn more about the Bible and envision myself referencing it often during Bible studies.

The Catholic Bible Dictionary is available in hardback and in ebook format.  I reviewed the hardback edition and suspect that would be my preference for this reference book.

What kind of religious reference books do you own?
