For almost 13 years, our family has been enjoying the different Veggie Tales shows.  Some are more beloved than others, but overall they tend to entertain both adults and children alike.  Our family was eager to review the latest show from this franchise, Veggies in Space: The Fennel Frontier.

About Veggies in Space: The Fennel Frontier

VeggiesInSpaceDVD-200x280Boldly going where no Veggie has gone yet, Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato, two of the most recognized home entertainment characters among moms of pre-schoolers, take on the heroic theme of space exploration in their new roles as Captain Cuke and Mr. Spork.  At the heart of their out-of-this-world adventure is an important lesson in sharing that is underscored in several, relatable ways for young viewers.

Joining the spotlight with everyone’s favorite Veggies is Grammy®-nominated and Dove Award®-winning artist, Jamie Grace. The popular singer-song writer shines on the official DVD single “Enough to Share,” which features a giggle-inducing rap hook by Larry the Cucumber. Larry is also featured in a song of his own, titled “Asteroid Cowboys,” during the brand’s signature “Silly Songs with Larry” portion of the DVD.

Veggies in Space: The Fennel Frontier is currently available on DVD with a suggested retail price of $14.99.  You can purchase it directly from Big Idea at the current sale price of $12.97 (with free shipping on orders over $30 or more to the 48 contiguous United States.)  Or, you can order Veggies in Space from Amazon at the current price of $9.96.

Our Thoughts on Veggies in Space: The Fennel Frontier

While we will most likely not put this title into our top Veggie Tales of all time category, the boys and I did enjoy joining favorite characters on an adventure into outer space.  Being science fiction lovers, we quickly picked up on a lot of references to different science fiction shows and movies.  Personally, I loved that Archibald got to be “The Doctor” in a short cameo appearance.  And, the new silly song, Asteroid Cowboys, was definitely cute.

Like other shows, this one is full of quirky humor and music with a great underlying message.  In this case, the message is that we should be sharing from all that God has given us.  Looking around our own house, I can see an abundance of stuff that sits unused when there are many, even in our local area, that could benefit from our sharing.

Being a homeschooling mother, I am constantly looking at how to take something fun (like watching this show) and make it into a learning opportunity.  Big Idea offers several different options on their activities page including a discussion guide for this show, building your own spaceship (model) and the chance to make USS Applepies and Asteroid Popcorn to eat.  I think it’ll make for a great ‘fun school’ day for the boys and this mom.

  1. We haven’t seen any Veggie Tales shows yet, but MacLarry & the Stinky Cheese Battle looks fun.

  2. We have loved VeggieTales, though I must admit that we’ve been disappointed some in recent years, with their getting away from telling Bible stories. Our favorite of all time is probably still “Where’s God When I’m Scared?” (Whatter ya gonna do?? I’m gonna call the police!!)

  3. All of the Veggie Tales movies/shows are so great! One of the best series ever made for the whole family to enjoy! We like them all, but King George & the Ducky is my personal favorite!
