Science fun in the summertime

Back in May, I received an email from Aurora at Supercharged Science about her Summer Science eCamp.  This had me intrigued.  Learn FUN science on YOUR schedule using mostly items you already have on hand.  So, I signed us up and eagerly anticipated her posting different topics each month.

Now, I will admit that we didn’t do nearly as much science this summer as I wanted to do.  BUT, it has been awesome to just log in to the member site and dive right in for some hands-on learning.  Each topic had some background to read (very short as the emphasis is on learning by doing) and then you can watch videos of each experiment being done.  This is what I really loved about the program ~ the boys can watch someone demonstrate and then go off and do it themselves.  That’s far more empowering an experience than trying to just follow a written set of instructions!

With a little more time left for that program, we are planning to have learning adventures with the microscope as well as more physics fun.  Hubby’s got a small collection of real microscopes already in the house, so we didn’t have to buy one.  We just need to uncover where the slides and other paraphernalia are hiding at the moment.  (I found my dissecting kit yesterday, but NOT any slides!)
