I use almond milk a LOT in the house. I even have a few brands that I usually purchase at the store. But, I’d been wanting to take control in the kitchen when it comes to my food and that included trying my hand at making homemade almond milk. I can’t believe how SUPER easy the Nut Milk Bag from Everyday Kitchen Essentials has made the process.

Not only can I make nut milks, but I can try my hand at homemade juices without needing a juicer!  Yep, just use my blender to grind it all up and then use the nut milk bag to separate out the juice from the pulp.  I can’t wait to see how it works for my super sensitive to texture son who can’t stand a regular smoothie.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw almonds (plain or roasted)
  • filtered water

Instructions

  1. Cover raw almonds with filtered water and allow to soak at least 8 hours.
  2. Drain soaked almonds.
  3. To blender (need at least 6 cup capacity), add 4 cups of filtered water and the soaked almonds.
  4. Blend on high for 5 minutes.
  5. Pour blended mixture through the Nut Milk Bag. "Milk' the bag to fully drain the almond milk.
  6. Enjoy!

Notes

There will be a little foam on the top of your strained milk. Sitting in the refrigerator for a while will have it disappear.
Make sure you keep the fresh almond milk in the refrigerator and use within a few days.
You can add a little of a sweetening agent to the strained milk, using the blender to mix it well. Also, adding a bit of cocoa powder will allow you to make chocolate almond milk.

I’ve already been ‘testing’ in in my daily Shakeology.  Just this morning, I made it with 1 cup of almond milk, 1 scoop of Shakeology, 1 tsp. almond butter, a dash of cinammon and 1 cup of frozen blueberries.  Yum!!
