Christmas is almost here and like many Americans I have put some of my shopping off until the last minute. This includes a few family members in my immediate family. Adding to the challenge of buying a gift for my husband is that we’ve purchased a few big ‘gifts’ to ourselves (like our grown up bedroom furniture) this past year when the need arose. Rather than just buying more stuff that will either go unused or help to increase our consumer debt, I decided what was in dire need was a date night themed gift that will help us continue to focus on our marriage in a healthy manner.
Finding the Base Item for a Date Night Themed Gift
When I think about date nights with my husband, I have to admit that the idea of being intimate is at the back of my mind. After all, intimacy is not only fun, but a crucial part of maintaining a health relationship.
The product I opted to use for creating the base of my date night themed gift bag is K-Y Yours+Mine Couples Lubricants found in your local Walmart. >Now, we’ve used K-Y during intimate moments to help with lubrication issues in the past. And, we’ve enjoyed their TOUCH 2-in-1 Warming Oil and Personal Lubricant. Both products have their place in our lives. However, K-Y Yours+Mine promises to take things to a new level by creating sensations customized for him and her. And, after 18 years of marriage I don’t mind trying something new to spice things up a little.
One of the best things about purchasing this product right now is that they have specially marked packages which include a VUDU streaming movie coupon and Plated.com free delivered dinner coupon that is attached to the KY product packaging.
That means your first date night could be ‘in the bag’ with no extra expense on your part. I will share that Plated.com does not offer dinners to all locations at the moment, including our Alaskan locale. However, just having the extra movie rental option is a boon in my book as the specially marked package costs the same as the regular one.
Putting Together a Date Night Themed Gift for My Husband
As purchasing everything I wanted to include for several options of date nights during the upcoming year is not feasible for my budget all at one time, I decided to get a little creative by including coupons for the different ideas I had. Many of the ideas are rather low cost, with only a few carrying a price tag out of the ordinary household expenses. Along with the K-Y Yours+Mine and the date night certificates, I am including a bottle of almond oil for regular massages and some pieces of chocolate as some sweets for my sweetie.
In case you’d like to put a few date night certificates into your loved one’s stocking or compile a little gift bag like I am, I am including two different templates that have space for you to write your own date night idea. (Just click on the image to get the pdf file, print and start customizing!)
Here are a few of the date night ideas I’ve included in the Christmas gift for my husband:
Outdoor Winter Fun Day : either cross country skiing or snow shoeing with hot chocolate or coffee and soup in thermoses
Snuggle Time by the Fire : enjoy conversation and dessert after the boys are in bed while snuggling by the fire with the lights turned off and a few candles for extra ambient light.
Movie Night at Home with his pick of movie : super buttery popcorn popped fresh on the stove and soda included.
Movie Night at Home with my pick of movie : super buttery popcorn popped fresh on the stove and soda included.
Couples’ Pampering Night : dim the lights in the bedroom and enjoy a few pampering spa treatments and massage to help us relax; chocolate based dessert included.
Getting Away from it All : this could be even just camping out without the kids in the backyard or a night at a local spot while friends or family watch the kids; I won a free night at a hotel in Anchorage and have a girlfriend who’s volunteered to stay the night with the boys before her husband returns from his time away. As we’ve not had a night away from the boys since our eldest son was born, I am really looking forward to this in January.
Enjoying the Great Outdoors : hiking in a near by state park with a picnic lunch.
Night at the Range :time at the local shooting range as a couple with a little contest by marking certain “honey do” items on the target for a little added competition.
Star Gazing : grab a snack and beverage and head out to a great star gazing site to enjoy the beauty of nature; in Alaska this means either gazing from the comfort of our vehicle or bringing blankets and warm beverages for a more abbreviated star gazing when it is still cold outside.
Romantic Dinner for Two after Hours: set the table with my best dishes and enjoy a special dinner without the boys in our own home.
Dining Out on the Town : Pick a ethnic restaurant to patronize and enjoy a dish we either do not or can not easily prepare at home. If possible, we’ll use a coupon to keep the cost down.
I am super anxious to see what my husband thinks about my little project as a way to not only bless him this Christmas season, but to also help us continue to work on our marriage in the upcoming year.
