Little Star, a review

With the holidays upon us, I am pulling out all the books, movies and music that make it all special.   We’ve already had instrumental Christmas music playing during school and will most likely begin watching favorite holiday shows we own on DVD or tape.

Now we have a new book that provides a different take on the Christmas story.

Little Star is written by Anthony DeStefano and illustrated by Mark Elliott.

This story was actually written many years ago while in high school and has just been published for families to enjoy.

In a nutshell, this book tells the story of the Christmas Star that shown down upon Bethlehem the night of Jesus’ birth.  While it is a short, picture book, children may grow to love Little Star for being unique among the stars.  There is also a tie-in at the end as to why many place a star atop their Christmas trees.  (For the record, we have an angel.)

I will say that my younger boys all enjoyed my reading this aloud.  The illustrations tie in so nicely to the story and really help bring it to life.

Overall, this one is a keeper and destined to join the ranks of holiday books we read each year.
