TOS Crew Review – Kinderbach, A Second Look

I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Last year, D and R had fun learning basic music skills with the online learning program, Kinderbach. My review of that experience can be found here.

Since my previous review, Kinderbach has expanded their offerings and made some modifications to the online program. One change to the online program that I really liked was having ALL the printable pages for a given level in ONE pdf file you can download. Rather than having to remember to print a page for a lesson, I could print out all the pages for that level and have them ready for the student. As of December 2008, only Levels 1 through 3 were available to members. They have now added three additional levels (4 through 6)to the site.

Kinderbach has also added other products to purchase. Coloring, craft and game books are now available on the website. The Craft and Game books help to reinforce the learning for the level. We were given a copy of Craft & Game Level 1 book which included templates for making a floor keyboard, rhythm cards, and a game for learning finger numbers.

This year the boys were a little less enthusiastic to spend time on Kinderbach. I honestly believe this to be a reflection of their new maturity levels. Dodi seemed less ‘fun’ to them and better suited for a younger student. If D was the first born, this might not have been the case. However, when you have older brothers in the house, you tend to like ‘older’ things and shun products geared for a younger crowd. Also, having a new baby around and less time for mom to sit alongside probably contributed to the decreased enthusiasm.

Kinderbach can be purchased for $19.98 per month OR you can order one year of access for $95.88. Completing all the levels equates to approximately 22 hours of instruction. Compared to private lessons, Kinderbach is definitely a bargain choice for the beginning student.

As always, you can see what other TOS Crewmates are saying about Kinderbach on the TOS Homeschool Crew site. Our family was given access to the member site and copy of the Craft and Game Level 1 ebook in exchange for this review. No other compensation was provided to me and the opinions expressed here are my own.
