It was an overcast turning to rain kind of day when we visited the Portage Glacier with my parents. There is a really neat visitor center (small admission charge per adult and free for kids!) One of the features of the center is a short video on the big screen. At the end of the ‘show’, the curtain goes up behind the screen and you can look out at the water. Apparently, when the center was built you could actually SEE Portage Glacier. But, it has receded too far to be visible from there now.
The younger boys went through the rest of the center a bit quicker than most adults would enjoy. One of the ladies working there shared that the staff calculated you could spend almost 6 hours there IF you are reading each display and doing each activity.

This photo was from a spot on the way home. It’s amazing to see the blue ice. I just wish I had gotten a few photos of the rivers that are glacier fed as the color is hard to describe ~ a sort of turquoise.
