For years, I have taken the boys on trips to see family. Some have been relatively short drives while others have been over multiple days. When we lived in Ohio, I remember splurging on a hanging VCR player to use in the car so that the boys would be occupied and quiet for at least part of the trip. And, it usually worked.
Now we can load up games, music and videos on the iPad and take it with us with boys taking turns using it. But, I will admit to sometimes worrying that my youngest will start watching something on it, fall asleep, and then have it drop to the ground. Plus, things can get rather cluttered quickly if he wants to have other things (e.g. books) to occupy his time.
This product addresses a safe way to let youngsters use an iPad or tablet while in a moving vehicle AND it provides you with plenty of storage while hanging on the seat in front of the child. An adjustable strap is what fits around the headrest of the seat in front. I will note that this will not work in all vehicles, such as our Ford Expedition which has solid headrests that are wider than the strap allows. I am thinking about looking for a way to extend the reach, but haven’t found anything in the house to allow for it right now. So, it will only be used in our older Toyota Sienna for now.
Other features include the ability to have wipes practically at your fingertips as well as hold a small water bottle or sippy cup. The tablet viewer portion ‘hides’ behind this area, but you just pull that part out and insert your iPad or tablet for use. We weren’t sure if our iPad would need to come out of its normal case for use, but were pleased to find that I can slide it in as is and everything functions well.
A small mesh zippered area is perfect to hold a few thin books. And there is a larger zippered compartment at the bottom for protecting lovies or other treasures.
I suspect this will come in quite handy this school year as I drive the older boys to their Academic Decathlon study group about 30 minutes away. I do wish we’d had this years ago as it would have made even errands around town a little more pleasant.
