I have been, or can be if you click on a link and make a purchase, compensated via a cash payment, gift, or something else of value for writing this post. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
I remember seeing the announcements through various email lists I am on about the new Homeschooling ABCs course that Terri Johnson at Knowledge Quest was offering. It sounded really interesting, but I didn’t sign up for it. I figured it was really for the true ‘newbie’ to homeschooling and we’d just finished our second year. Boy, was I wrong on that account!
Granted, the course is primarily geared for the novice homeschooler. Yet, if there is one thing I have found it is that you can always learn something new. Or, you might find that what previously worked no longer works for your family.
Terri has designed each weekly ‘class’ to be matched with a letter of the alphabet. To date, the ones I have received in my inbox to preview are:
A – A Quick Start
B – Begin with the Basics
C – Copy the Classroom – NOT!
D – Dare to Differentiate (teaching to specific learning styles)
E – Establish your philosophy of education
F – Finding the Best Curriculum for your Family
G – Get Together – Networking with other Homeschoolers
H – Hands on Learning for Greater Retention
I – Internet and Library Research Skills
J -Just say No: staying focused and on track
K – Keeping up with the Kindergarteners and Preschoolers
L – Living and Learning at home
Each weekly email links to a pdf file of the lesson. Terri has done a wonderful job of succinctly covering the topic and then providing more resources to delve into it. Along the way, the attendees are blessed with a plethora of resources free of charge. Terri even has 10 bonus gifts you receive upon registering, including 2 ocean themed lapbooks from In the Hands of a Child (one of my favorite vendors) and a Mother Enrichment Package from TEACH magazine. Just those 2 bonus products are worth the cost of the entire course.
For a mere $10 per month ($60 total) you’ll be on your way to learning the basics of homeschooling. Or, maybe it will just be refreshing what you might have heard along the way. I definitely feel that even a slightly seasoned homeschool parent like myself can benefit. I know that I already have learned a few new things and had other ideas reinforced along the way. Just visit Homeschooling ABCs to get started.
