Do you have a child with ‘messy bed syndrome?’
You know…the kids who can’t make his bed neatly or doesn’t see the point at all?
Now, some might say “well, who cares if the bed is made? They are just going to climb back in again!” That’s exactly what my boys have argued for years. What I have found is that a messy bed often leads to a messy room.
Why Worry Over a Messy Bed?
So…the story of your child’s room might go like this:
When you allow a child to have a messy bed, they no longer see a mess. The twisted mound of sheets and blankets is the norm.
That messy bed soon spreads to a messy room. After all, if I’m just going to play with those building blocks tomorrow, why should I pick them up today?
If my bed can be all frumpy, why should I bother with hanging up or folding my clothes to put them away? Hey, I could have more time to play if I just kept them in a pile! If they don’t stink (too bad), who cares what I wear?
Before you know it that messy room is a breeding ground. Things become hidden.
“Mom, I can’t find the matching sock!” “Mom, where did you put my shoes??? I’m going to be late and its all your fault!”
Aside from ‘losing’ things they need, the ability for stuff to be hidden in their messy room creates a far worst monster: bugs and smells. Creepy crawling things that set up their home and feast on things long since forgotten. Bugs that like comfortable, warm, dark places to set up their own nests.
And, the smells….
Well, this mom of 4 boys can tell you that piles of forgotten laundry can create a locker room effect that has you running for the hills. Seriously. I’ve had times where I was trying to ‘train them up’ and relinquished control only to be so repulsed I couldn’t go downstairs. That’s a problem as the schoolroom is there.
Conquering Messy Bed Syndrome
One might think that the obvious way to eliminate a messy bed is to joyfully show your child how to make the bed. When they are young, you might even be their ‘helper’ for a while until they get the hang of things. For some kids, this is all it takes.
I’ve shown my boys how to make their bed quickly and somewhat neatly. I’m not looking for hospital corners or the ability to bounce a coin on the bed. Rather, just something that doesn’t make you cringe and helps them get started on the path of calm living.
Sadly, it hasn’t been working.
My younger boys share a bunk bed. If you have a set of bunks in your house or have had them, you’ll know that making up the bed is a chore. Even I dread helping them get the fitted sheet in place!
I knew there had a to a better way. Something that once in place would be easier to maintain.
No More Messy Bed with Jay Franco & Sons Spider-Man Collection
We’ve found a solution with my youngest son in the Jay Franco & Sons Spider-Man Collection.
Now, I’ve seen zippy sacks around for a while. But, I hadn’t given them a try. Oh, what I was missing out on!!
For most kids, you will need to be the adult and put it onto the bed. However, my son is able and willing to make his bed with the gentle pull of a zipper.
What Other Goodies are in the Jay Franco & Sons Spider-Man Collection?
For those who have a serious Spider-Man fan on their hands, you can end the messy bed along with giving them a protector of the bed. (Or, maybe it is just my son who needs some friends on his bed to keep him safe.) The beach poncho is great for drying off after being in the water. The beach poncho is great for drying off after being in the water. While it was made for fun in the sun, I’ve seen kids use these after an initial dry off from taking a bath. Yeah…just think you might have a clean kid entering a cleaner room with no messy bed in sight.

Bestill this mama’s heart….
